A Jefferson City pair has been charged in the May 9th shooting in Boonville.
Fernando Townsend was charged yesterday (Thursday) in Cooper County with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Janiya Rucker, of Jefferson City, was charged with being an accessory to each crime.
Townsend is accused of firing a gun out of a car at an 18-year-old and 22-year-old just after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Rankin Mill Lane and Main Street. The shooting occurred in a busy area just after school let out, according to the probable cause statement.
Rucker allegedly admitted to law enforcement that she sped away in the vehicle with Townsend, who is disabled from another shooting, inside it, the statement says. She was allegedly seen by witnesses running outside the vehicle on the I-70 ramp and a gun was found in the area she was seen, the statement says.
Warrants were issued for both Townsend and Rucker yesterday Thursday. Bonds have been set at $100,000.
