An 18-year-old University of Missouri student faces several felony charges after allegedly strangling another student who blocked him on Snapchat.
Maxwell Warren of Overland Park, Kansas, is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic assault, first-degree domestic assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.
According to a probable cause statement, the victim had blocked Warren on Snapchat on September 26. That same day, Warren went to the victim’s residence hall to confront them. When the victim partially opened the door, Warren allegedly forced his way into the dorm room.
Court documents state that Warren began strangling the victim while demanding to be added back on Snapchat. The victim reportedly unblocked him after the assault.
On September 28, Warren allegedly sent the victim a message on Instagram admitting to the assault, and two days later threatened to harm the victim again.
The probable cause statement indicates that Warren attacked the victim a second time on October 29, again inside the dorm room. During the second assault, the victim reportedly lost consciousness after being strangled.
The university has banned Warren from campus, stating it does not tolerate violence. He remains in the Boone County Jail without bond, with a bond hearing set for Monday.
