Emergency crews in Columbia rescued a 12-year-old boy who had gone missing in the city’s stormwater system for more than four hours Last night.

Firefighters, police, and sewer workers began searching shortly after 5 p.m., finally pulling the boy to safety around 9:45 near the Parkway Apartments off East Broadway and Garth Avenue.

Columbia Officials said the heavy emergency response was all part of the search effort. East Broadway was closed and reopened multiple times as crews worked the scene.
