Audrain County deputies worked with the Jefferson City Police Department last Friday to arrest a Jefferson City man wanted for multiple charges, including felony harassment, after allegedly threatening to kill a woman and holding her against her will Thursday morning.
Syvonn Lamont Byrd was arrested in Mexico, after he was charged Friday in Cole County Circuit Court with first-degree harassment, a Class E felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of third-degree kidnapping and fourth-degree domestic assault. A judge denied bond.
According to court documents, police responded to a residence in the 200 block of East Ashley Street around 9:07 a.m. Thursday after the victim’s sister reported Byrd was holding the woman hostage.
The victim had traveled from Quincy, Illinois, to see Byrd after his recent release from jail. She claimed he became angry Wednesday night and took her vehicle keys, leaving her stranded at his residence, according to court documents.
According to court documents, the situation escalated Thursday morning when the woman received a text message from another man. That’s when Byrd again confiscated her keys and threatened to kill the victim multiple times, telling her she was “going to go missing” and that “this is what he gets paid to do.”
When officers arrived and knocked on the door, Byrd returned to the bedroom, gave the woman her belongings and then forced her out of the residence, according to court documents.
