Dog Breeder Accused of Horrific Neglect Pleads for Jail Release

A Boone County dog breeder charged in multiple animal abuse cases is again asking to be released from jail.

Court records show Melissa Sanders, owner of Magnum Opus German Shepherds, is seeking bond after being denied last month.

Sanders faces three felonies and 15 misdemeanor counts after investigators found dozens of dead or neglected dogs at her business.

Her attorney argues she has no criminal record, isn’t a flight risk, and would accept strict supervision if released.

Prosecutors maintain Sanders poses a risk to the community.

Seventeen surviving dogs are still being cared for by the Central Missouri Humane Society.
