Southern Boone’s school board is hitting pause on a move to a four-day school week, tabling the proposal after a packed meeting Monday night in Ashland.
The plan was pitched as a way to attract and keep teachers, but parents, staff, and students raised concerns about academics, childcare, and services many families rely on.
Superintendent Tim Roth stayed neutral, saying the change would effect families, staff, students, and the broader community, in different ways, while a student questioned whether an extra day off would really boost studying.
Board president Amy Begeman pointed to uncertain state funding which makes up nearly 40 percent of the district’s budget as a key reason to wait, and there’s no timeline yet for when the board will revisit the idea.
