A New Years Day accident in Jefferson City turned fatal after a 57-year-old Jefferson City man crashed his 2016 Chevrolet Malibu into the corner of a building in the 33-hundred block of North Ten Mile Drive.

The crash happened at 1:54 p.m. when the eastbound Malibu went off the right side of the roadway and into the parking lot of Westbrook Terrace Memory Care, striking hte northwest corner of the structure, and coming to rest in the parking lot.

Inside the building, a resident was found dead from fatal injuries suffered in the crash.

The Malibu’s driver was lightly injured and transported to a medical facility for evaluation.

The incident remains under criminal investigation by the Jefferson City Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
