
Jefferson City police continue to look for a 29-year-old Jefferson City man in connection to a fatal shooting in the city late Friday afternoon.
Around 4:08pm Friday, JCPD responded to the 800 block of Mulberry Street where residents reported hearing gunfire that, according to witnesses, erupted during a fight.
A 39-year-old Jefferson City man was shot and was taken by private vehicle to Capital Region Medical Center. He was later airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia, where he died from his injuries, according to a news release.
Malcolm Mayes has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting and is on the run. Police are asking anyone with information about Mayes’ whereabouts to contact the Department, their local law enforcement agency or Crimestoppers at 573-659-8477.
