A man is in custody after a deadly incident tied to an Amber Alert in Jefferson City.

Police say officers were called Monday afternoon to the 1100 block of East McCarty Street, where they found a woman with critical injuries.

She later died at the scene.

Authorities identified the suspect as 46-year-old Malang Jan Akbari, believed to have killed the children’s mother before fleeing with a one-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

That sparked an Amber Alert just after 1 p.m.

The children were safely located around 2 p.m., and the alert was canceled.

Police closed the area for several hours to investigate.
