Staff Member At Jefferson City Correctional Center Assaulted
A female staff member was assaulted at the Jefferson City Correctional Center at around 8:30 yesterday morning.
The incident took place when a prisoner, serving time for two murder convictions was in an outdoor segregation unit. The prisoner managed to get a wire out of the fencing of the confinement area and crawled outside the cage.
The staff member was attacked from behind and the wire was used as a weapon that he placed at the staff member’s throat.
The prisoner demanded to talk to a unit manager, and after one was brought in, the prisoner handed his weapon over to one of the other 13 staff that responded to the scene.
The woman was not injured, but was sent home for the day.
The prison was put on a modified lockdown for a few hours.
