Attorney General Schmitt Make Recommendation to USDA
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt is taking the United States Department of Agriculture to task over proposed rule changes for so-called fake meat products.
In a letter filed during the USDA’s comment period, Schmitt recommends the USDA adopt the Missouri statute that prohibits the labeling of cultured or lab-grown products as meat.
The USDA is proposing to allow products containing cultured cells derived from animals to be labeled as meat.
Missouri was the first state in the country to legislate the marketing integrity of meat.
