Mexico Man Charged After Being Accused of Shooting at Windows at Audrain Community Hospital

A Mexico man is now charged after being accused of shooting at windows at the Audrain Community Hospital over the weekend. 56 year old Jeffrey W. Hunnington was charged with first-degree property damage, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Mexico Public Safety went to a shots fired call on Saturday night on the 600 block of East Monroe, and saw windows of the emergency room at the hospital had been shot out.

According to hospital staff, the damages amounted to around $30,000. According to a probable cause statement Hunnington contacted Mexico Public Safety and admitted to shooting at the hospital due to his wife not being paid by Noble Health for several weeks, in addition to not being billed correctly for medical services.

According to the probable cause statement during a consent search of Hunnington’s vehicle, officers said they found a loaded Ruger 9mm handfung, a Springfield 9mm gun, numerous rounds of 9mm ammo and six spent shell casings.

Noble Health the previous owner of the Audrain Community Hospital, had suspended services at the hospital and furloughed its employees, citing restructuring and financial reasons.
