Mexico Public Safety Responds to Two Separate Incidents of Man Wielding a Knife and a Man With a Gun Shot Wound
Mexico Public Safety is reporting several incidents from last night (Friday) and early this morning (Saturday).
According to a news release from the department last night (Friday) just before 10:30 officers went to the 4200 block of South Clark in reference to a man with a knife.
Responding personnel found that a 46-year-old Mexico man entered a business while holding a hunting knife.
The man was not a customer and initially refused to leave the property.
Officers located the man walking north along Clark Street still holding the knife and eventually confronted him in the parking lot of the South Trails Shopping Center.
The man refused to drop the knife according to Public Safety and a less lethal shotgun was used to fire bean bag rounds, causing the man to drop the knife and he was taken into custody.
The man was then taken to MU Psychiatric Center for evaluation.
Mexico Public Safety responded to another incident around 5:20 this morning (Saturday).
Officer responded to the 500 block of West Monroe in reference to a man entering a business with an injury to his head.
Responding personnel found that a 38-year-old Mexico man had shot himself with a small caliber gun.
The Audrain Ambulance District took the man to MU Hospital for treatment.
The injury did not appear to be life threatening.
