Cole County Sheriff Warns of Telephone Scam

The Cole County Sheriff’s Department sent out a press release warning of a telephone scam involving people missing court or missing jury duty.

Suspects identify themselves as deputies from the Cole County Sheriff’s Department, saying victims missed jury duty or a court date and now have to pay with money orders or face arrest.

The release says, “Do not use the number the individuals give you. They sound very authentic and are pretty pushy. Remember, we will not call you and tell you if you have a warrant.”
