Ashford and Robins plead to 2nd degree murder in Doxley shooting

Days before their cases were scheduled to go to trial, two Columbia men have pled guilty in the killing of 15-year-old Aubry Doxley.

Oscar Ashford, 21, and 20-year-old Samarion Robins, withdrew their previous pleas of not guilty yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) in Boone County Court and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Under the negotiated plea deal, charges of armed criminal action against the suspects were dropped.

Doxley was lying in her bed on her house on McKee Street when bullets from an apparent drive-by shooting, came through the window and killed her in February 2022.

One more suspect remains set for trial in connection to the shooting. 23-yer-old Daniel Ayers, is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to court records, it is believed that Ayers, acting with others, shot the firearm from the vehicle. He has a hearing set for 1:15 p.m. Friday and a jury trial set for April 14.
