University of Missouri President Mun Choi has demanded that Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe address violent crime in downtown Columbia, warning that if action wasn’t taken by 5pm Sunday, he would seek the help of Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe.
Choi sent a Saturday afternoon email, just hours after a downtown shooting that left a bystander dead to Buffaloe, Columbia’s City Manager De’Carlon Seewood, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson, Columbia Police Chief Jill Schlude and Boone County Commissioner Kip Kendrick
Buffaloe has tried a number of things to silence violent crime in COMO, including adding personnel to work the downtown during the early morning hours. Since June, the City and the Columbia Police Department have added eight additional officers to the night shift, increasing patrol staffing by nearly 20% compared to last summer, with officers focused on proactive enforcement, making over 300 enforcement actions downtown in recent months.
