A passenger was left in serious condition after an accident Saturday evening in Columbia. The collision was in the 3800 Block of Ponderosa Street, and according to the Columbia Police Department, 25-year-old Saul Diaz, of Columbia, allegedly crossed the center line and struck a vehicle moving in the opposite direction. Alcohol was suspected in the crash.

EMS transported drivers from both cars and a passenger from Diaz’s vehicle to a local hospital.

Columbia police arrested Diaz on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with serious physical injury to others, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and a lane violation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
