It’s been too long, but the Columbia Memorial Day Gold Star Parade, is back on tap. Mary Posner ran the Salute to veterans celebration for 30 years, but when she passed in 2019, so did the tradition.
Sherry Wyatt, a gold star mother herself, has rekindled the revival of the parade that honors Gold Star families. The mother of two lost her eldest son, U.S. Army Specialist Sterling Wyatt, on July 11, 2012, in Afghanistan. Not surprisingly, Wyatt stated it was the toughest day of her life.
She will honor her son, and others, in the parade which begins 10am in downtown Columbia.
