Columbia man charged with domestic assault and gun threats

A Columbia man has been charged with domestic assault after authorities say he choked his partner, cut them with a weapon, and threatened three people, including a child, with a gun.

Jericho Kent, 24, faces two counts of second-degree domestic assault, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to court records.

The charges cover two alleged incidents, one in October 2024 and another recently.

Prosecutors say Kent became enraged, shoved his partner’s head into a wall in a hotel, and pointed a gun at three other people, one of whom was reportedly a child.

In a separate statement, Kent allegedly tried to search his partner’s phone and began choking them when they refused to share the password.

That October 2024 incident allegedly led to a struggle during which the partner grabbed a knife; Kent reportedly grabbed the knife and bent the partner’s hand toward their leg, causing a cut.

Kent is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. He appeared at an initial arraignment Monday without an attorney, according to court records.
