A 44-year-old Columbia man is in custody after a standoff earlier today. Travis Peterson is charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree harassment and resisting arrest.
According to online court records, the standoff began in the 3300 block of Parker Street, just south of Blue Ridge Road. About 9:17 this morning when officers responded to a shots fired call.
Peterson allegedly pointed a gun to his girlfriend’s head during an argument in his residence, threatened to shoot her, followed her outside and fired a shot at the ground towards her feet.
Police responded and Peterson then barricaded himself inside the residence and threatened officers that he would shoot them if they entered.
The Police Department posted on social media just before 1:45 p.m. announcing the standoff was over and that residents of the area could return to their homes.
