A Columbia woman is behind bars, accused of abusing a child in her care.

Boone County deputies say they found the child on Friday, November 21, after reports of a youngster hiding near North Rocky Fork Drive.

According to court documents, the child told deputies they ran away because 33-year-old Breashia Grant had beaten them with a phone charging cord and withheld food as punishment.

Investigators noted both fresh and older marks on the child’s arms and hands.

Prosecutors have charged Grant with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree domestic assault.
