A 73-year-old man from Cape Girardeau County, who has spent the last 20 years in prison, has died in the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

Fred Harris was pronounced dead at 7:21 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Harris was serving a 50-year sentence for forcible rape and died of apparent natural causes, according to the advisory.
