It’s been 7 years since police responded to a sexual assault call in the 800 block of Ann Street in Columbia. Early in the morning on July 24, 2018 a woman told investigators that an unknown man pulled her behind an apartment building and forcibly raped her, according to court documents. According to a probable cause statement, the woman screamed for help, and someone chased the suspect away, but not before she had been violated.
In June of this year an arrest was issued for the man believed responsible for the crime.
Yesterday, Columbia police say 58-year-old Antonio Earl Bates of St. Louis was arrested in the St. Louis for first-degree rape, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
Bates was identified through a DNA profile obtained through a post-sexual assault exam on the woman.
