Emergency calls in Moberly just scare tactics

Randolph County law enforcement busy this morning on what turned out to be nuisance calls. Moberly Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s and Ambulance units were dispatched earlier this morning to an active shooter report at a Moberly residence. The caller gave very detailed information about a shooting and plans to shoot law enforcement. Shortly after the shooting was reported, a call was made referencing a bomb threat at the Huntsville City Hall. Personnel from all agencies responded and after a thorough investigation determined the call came from an untraceable phone and none of the reported accusations were true.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office explained on Facebook, that this is a practice known as “swatting”, where a caller makes false reports to elicit a mass response from first responders to cause disruption.

The incident is being investigated, but all accusations were unsubstantiated and all personnel have cleared the scenes.
