Health care could cost Americans more next year, as open enrollment for 2026 plans begins soon. Across the country — and especially in Missouri — premiums are set to climb sharply.
Nationally, insurers blame higher costs on tariffs driving up prices for medical equipment and supplies, along with the expiration of premium tax credits. That could mean out-of-pocket costs rise by about 75 percent on average.
In Missouri, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield plans an average increase of 22 percent, United Health Care nearly 15 percent, and Cox Health Plans more than 30 percent. For many families, that could mean paying hundreds more each month for the same coverage.
