Heyde arraignment schedule for Monday

A 1:30 arraignment has been scheduled for Monday in Randolph County Court, for 68-year-old David K. Heyde. He is the former Moberly police officer that has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the Sunday shooting death of 23-year-old Bailey Scott, of Moberly.

According to the probable cause statement, Heyde called Moberly police at 7:28pm and stated he had shot a female on his porch, and that she was dead. According to Heyde the woman had confronted him about feeding birds. He stated he had seen her earlier in the neighborhood, acting suspiciously, walking down the street and she came up to his door but left before he could get there.

Heyde stated later the same female came back and he went to the door with his .32 caliber Kel Tec handgun in his left hand, concealed behind his back, which he indicated was normal for him in greeting an unknown visitor. Heyde stated he walked out his front door and spoke with the female who he described as agitated and talking to him about feeding and attempting to kill birds at the front of his property.

Heyde stated he told the female to leave his property as he held his right hand up in an open palm orientation to gesture for her to leave, and that Scott used her right hand to quickly strike the left side of his face. Heyde stated he was stunned and reacted by firing his handgun two times at the female. She fell upon his porch and did not say anything after the shots.

No marks, bruising or swelling were observed on Heyde’s face by officers at the scene.
