Honduran national detained after Columbia shooting

A 22-year-old Honduran national was charged with four counts of first-degree assault, one count of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and a pair of counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Gayron Serrano Abrego, of Columbia, was charged with after he allegedly fired multiple shots at two people from a vehicle on New Year’s Eve.

The probable cause statement says Serrano Abrego was at a residence on Wednesday evening near the intersection of Jackson Street and Sondra Avenue, when a person arrived home and not knowing Serrano-Abrego as someone he knew, asked him to leave.

According to court documents, that person was standing outside near his car with another victim, later in the evening, when a black Nissan Altima pulled up and the driver, thought to be Serrano-Abrego, fired multiple shots.

Police wrote that officers found five spent shell casings in the area.

He is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail and an immigration detainer is listed in jail records.
