Jefferson City’s growing need for more housing has led the Jefferson City Council to approve a proposed subdivision that would add more than 200 homes just off Route C on the cities southwest side.

The council granted rezoning Monday of over 80 acres of land to allow for 230 single-family homes near Liverpool Drive and Rock Ridge Road. The subdivision, now called Walnut Hills, was formerly known as the Rock Bridge Subdivision.

Construction is expected to start as early as next year.
