A Jefferson City man is facing multiple charges after police say he broke into several vehicles, including a Jefferson City Police Department SUV.

Authorities allege that 29-year-old Andrew Zemke tried to steal a locked AR-15-style rifle from the police vehicle Monday on Deer Trail but was unsuccessful.

Security footage reportedly showed Zemke attempting to break into at least eight other cars in the area. Police later found and arrested him at a nearby Walmart. Zemke, who denied involvement, is now being held in the Cole County Jail without bond.
