The suspect in last Friday’s fatal shooting in Jefferson City is now in custody.

Police say 29-year-old Malcolm Mayes turned himself in Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 at the Jefferson City Police Department.

Mayes is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and several weapons offenses.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire Friday on the 800 block of Mulberry Street, where witnesses said a 39-year-old man had been shot during a fight.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, then airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia, where he later died.
