Authorities say a California man is facing serious charges after crashing a stolen City of Jefferson truck in Callaway County.

Troopers were called Thursday morning to County Road 488, where they found the city-owned vehicle off the road and smashed into a tree. The driver had taken off—but left behind a wallet containing an ID for 26-year-old Travis K. Ledford, Jr.

Investigators say surveillance video from the Binder Park Maintenance Shed in Jefferson City shows the truck being stolen earlier that day.
Ledford now faces charges of first-degree vehicle tampering and motor vehicle theft.
