A Boone County judge has denied a request to move the trial of a local dog breeder accused of animal abuse.

Twenty-six-year-old Melissa Sanders faces 29 felony charges after investigators say they found dozens of dead or malnourished dogs at her Boone County property, where she ran Magnum Opus German Shepherds.

Sanders’ attorney argued that widespread media coverage made it impossible for her to get a fair trial in Boone County, but the court disagreed.

The judge also ruled Sanders will remain jailed without bond.

She’s been in custody since her November arrest.
