Firefighters from around Montgomery City and neighboring towns responded to a pig containment barn fire Saturday night north of Montgomery City on White Road.

Montgomery County Fire crews were called to the barn around 8:20 p.m. with assistance from Wellsville, Middletown, Community, Bellflower and New Florence Fire Protection Districts.

The initial barn was fully engulfed upon arrival with the roof collapsed. Fire crews focused on, and were successful in, preventing the fire from spreading to other nearby pig barns.

A few animals did die in the fire, however, no people were hurt.

The cause of the fire has not been given at this time.
