Morning Sports report 8/20/25

Former Missouri Tiger and current Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season because of an MCL tear in her right knee, suffered in Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. Cunningham is the third Fever guard to go down with a season-ending injury in the past two weeks

The University of Missouri football Tigers wrapped up Fall camp yesterday and are now in game mode preparation for next Friday nights season opener. Nine days away and the Tigers still haven’t named a starting quarterback. That could change sometime today, as head coach Eli Drinkwitz has indicated he will address the competition between transfer Beau Pribula and junior Sam Horn today.

The Kansas City Royals went to the 7th tied with the Rangers 2-2 last night, and looked like they were headed for a big inning when Jonathan India was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and no one out to force in a run. A strikeout and double play later and Texas escaped the jam. But, Bobby Witt, Jr. came to the rescue with an insurance home run an inning later, a two -run shot, that would mark Royals history, and KC went on to a 5-2 victory

The Witt home run was his 100th, and it makes him the youngest in franchise history to reach the 100 home run mark.

The win was the fifth straight for the Royals, who closed to within 2½ games of an American League wild-card berth.

The St. Louis Cardinals got timely hitting and good starting pitching for the second day in a row, and not coincidentally have now won two in a row.

Last night starter Michael McGreevey went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs, in a 7-4 win.

The offense was lead by Ivan Herrera who went two for five with three RBI as St. Louis had four players with at least two hits..
