Tuesday marked the first day candidates could file for the open Second Ward seat on the Columbia City Council. It didn’t take long for Ken Rice to throw his hat in the ring.

Rice was unsuccessful in an attempt to run for the Columbia School Board this year, losing to incumbent Suzette Waters and newcomer Erica Dickson.

The position is open as Lisa Meyer is retiring. The deadline to file for the position is 5 p.m. June 3. Voters will go to the polls on Aug. 5.
