Softball Dawgs move on at Districts

The top half of the Class 3 District 4 Bracket was absolutely busted in yesterday’s first round action at Macon.

Top-seed and state ranked Centralia fell to #8-seed Hallsville, 3-1, and then #5 Mexico upended the #4 seeded Kirksville Lady Tigers, 6-3.

In the bottom half off the bracket #3-seed Macon went to the wire with Moberly before scoring two in the sixth for a 7-5 win and #2 seed Winfield edged #7 Bowling Green, 2-0.

Mexico won behind the strong play of leadoff hitter Maddie Feger. She was 3-for-4 on the night with three doubles, a run scored and an rbi. She also had several excellent catches in the outfield, including spearing a running line-drive with the bases loaded to end the game.

Catcher Hannah Loyd also had a strong game with a two-run home run in the 3rd inning that gave Mexico a 4-0 lead.

Kirksville answered back in the 4th inning with a matching 2-run homer from Paislee Clark to cut the MHS lead to 4-2, but the Dawgs answered back with two more in the 6th and put the Lady Tigers away late to advance.

Kiersten Ewing got the win for Mexico.
