Sturgeon boy found early this morning

A 4-year-old Sturgeon boy who walked away from his house last night was found safely early this morning.

The search ended at 3:45 a.m. when the child was found in the undercarriage of a multi-seat baby stroller more than half a mile from where he was last seen, according to a release from the the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Deputies were alerted to a man near the 400 block of East Patton Street looking for a missing child just after 11 p.m. last (Thursday) night.

Several Sturgeon residents as well as responders from the Boone County Fire Protection District, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Columbia Police Department, the Centralia Police Department and MU Health Care Ambulance Service assisted in the search, according to the release.

Railroad traffic in the city was temporarily suspended as search K9s, drones, a helicopter and thermal imaging were being used at the same time as the foot search was underway.

The boy was taken by ambulance to University Hospital for emergency care, according to a news release.
