The city of Sturgeon and a former police officer have agreed to pay five hundred thousand dollars to the owner of a dog shot and killed by that officer in May 2024.
The lawsuit claimed the city failed to train supervise and discipline its officers properly. The lawsuit asked for $1 million in damages.
Body camera footage showed Officer Myron Woodson trying to capture the small blind and deaf dog, named Teddy, before shooting it twice.
Woodson resigned in October after months on paid leave. The city’s former mayor also stepped down a week after the incident.
Sturgeon has since disbanded its police department and now contracts with Boone County for law enforcement.
