Teen Charged as Adult in Jefferson City Shooting Appears in Court

An arraignment is scheduled for today in Cole County Court, for 17-year old Daniel Day, after has was certified as an adult on Tuesday for a shooting that occurred in Jefferson City back in August.

Day was charged yesterday with unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action and a count of first-degree assault.

The probable cause statement says Jefferson City police were called on the late afternoon of Aug. 20 to the 300 block of Benton Street, where a man had been shot after he stopped in the middle of the road and honked his horn in front of a house where a woman who he was in a romantic relationship with was visiting.

His white BMW had been struck twice, while several shell casings were in the yard of the Benton Street house, the statement says.

Day has been in custody since August 20th and is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond.
