Two major manufacturers in Columbia seek tax abatements

Boone County Commissioners took up Chapter 100 incentive motions Tuesday for two major manufacturers Kraft Heinz and Schneider Electric.

The incentive program offers companies tax abatements for up to ten years if they meet certain job and investment targets.

Schneider Electric’s request, first filed in March to upgrade its Columbia plant, gained final approval Tuesday after a motion passed last week.

Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick says the move could bring new jobs to Boone County at a time when U.S. manufacturing has slowed.

Kraft Heinz also made its first motion Tuesday to pursue Chapter 100 benefits for renovations at its Paris Road hot dog plant, with a second vote expected Thursday.
