Missouri says benefits for low-income mothers and children will continue next month, despite the ongoing federal shutdown.
The state’s Department of Health and Senior Services announced Wednesday that the Women, Infants and Children, “WIC”, program will remain funded through November, thanks to savings from October payments.
Officials say the extra money came from families not using their full benefits, and some items being temporarily cut from the program.
However, DHSS cautions that funding may not last the entire month if Congress fails to approve new federal spending.
Missouri officials promise to alert families immediately if benefits run out.
