Javon Hornbeak Pleads Guilty to Second Degree Murder in Garfield Park Shooting that Left a Mexico Teen Dead

A Mexico man is pleading guilty to second degree murder for the August 5, 2020 shooting that killed a Mexico teen and injured two others.

Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger posted the plea online this afternoon (Monday).

Hornbeak turned himself in the day after a fatal shooting in the 900 block of Tyronn Lue Boulevard at Garfield Park in Mexico almost two years ago.

Tornez Burton, who was 17 at the time was killed in the shooting.

The Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was assisted by Missouri Attorney General’s Public Safety Division in the prosecution.

Hornbeak will be sentenced on June 24th.
