Tanker Hit by Train in Mexico

On Saturday morning, there was a crash involving a train and a tractor-trailer at the railroad crossings at Jefferson and Calhoun Street in Mexico.

Mark Taylor, age 63, of Belleville, Illinois, was delivering diesel fuel to the depot, operating a 2015 International semi-truck. Taylor stopped as a slow-moving train approached, but he stopped, leaving the back of the trailer near the edge of the tracks. The train struck the trailer and pushed it about 100 feet before it came to rest.

Audrain Ambulance District transported Taylor to University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The tracks and train were inspected and released shortly after noon. Less than five gallons total of diesel fuel and gasoline were spilled as a result of the crash.
