Technology Helps I.D. and Track Suspects in Columbia Homicide Over the Weekend

Security footage helped police identify and locate the suspects from the deadly shooting in Columbia over the weekend. Court documents say the two suspects planned to rob the victim, Shavez Waage, 22, during an apparently planned meet-up.

The surveillance video showed Waage’s vehicle pulling up to a gray Ford Fusion. Two people, later identified as Loyal B. Martell, of Holts Summit, and Joshua R. L. Dudley, of Kirksville, got out of the Fusion and into Waage’s vehicle then later got back into the Fusion and left.

Detectives also used the automatic license plate reader system, showing Dudley’s vehicle traveling north on Highway 63, just an hour after the shooting, the statement said. Dudley and his vehicle were located in Kirksville, where he was taken into custody.

Dudley, pictured above (left), and Martell (right), are being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
