MoDOT Holds Meeting On Unfunded Northeast District Projects in Mexico
Representatives from MoDOT meet with northeast Missouri stakeholders to discuss unfunded needs in the district.
The district encompasses 17 counties north of the Missouri River to the Iowa state line and from Highway 63 west to the Mississippi River.
The Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan for the next five years includes 10 billion dollars, 100 million of which was set aside by the Missouri General Assembly specifically for use to improve Missouri’s lettered highways.
Unfunded projects are divided into three tiers: what can be done in the next five years, what can be done in 5 to 10 years and what can be done in 10 to 20 years and multimodal needs.
The total for all of those categories is roughly 260 million dollars.
Two major projects that are in the unfunded category that are undergoing design studies are a bypass around Hannibal and the shared 4-lane Highway 54 between Mexico and Louisiana.
The studies, according to MoDOT District Engineer Paula Gough, show the department where to build, what needs to be built, and how much the project is expected to cost.
